Call for provisions of penalty for Tobacco Companies Speakers at NNTD rally and Meeting

Tobacco companies are publicizing tobacco ads through law violation. Youths are leaning to tobacco addiction for the aggressive ads by companies which leads them to other drug addictions. So, companies should be taken into provisions of penalty for law violation. Speakers made the claim at the rally and meeting in front of National Press Club at 10.00 AM in the morning today.

They bore placards, festoons, banners about keep public place and public transports 100% smoke-free, ban on direct and indirect ads, include company’s campaign for law violation, quit tobacco etc. in the rally. The rally started from National Sheed Minar; go round Doel Chattar, High Court More and end in front of National Press Club following a closing meeting. The rally was led by Saifuddin Ahmed, Coordinator of Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance (BATA). Representatives of many anti-tobacco organizations were present at the rally.

The meeting following the rally was addressed by Helal Ahmed, Secretary General of Protyasha Anti-Drugs Club and Ibnul Syed Rana, Chairman of NDF.

NATAB, TABINAJ, Manobik, Protyasha, SCOPE, ACLAB, AID, NDF, PSS, Jalalabad Foundation, Samonnito Promeela Mukti Prochesta, Green Mind Society, WBB Trust, Leo Club of Dhaka Weiss, Arunodoyer Tarun Dal, Hitoishi Bangladesh, Keranigonj Human Resource Society, Janoodhikar Foundation and other anti-tobacco organizations attended in the rally and public meeting.
