Capacity building workshop with Secretary and Licensing Officers of LGIs along with Khulna City Corporation, Municipalities & BATA Organizations

On 27 January 2021 capacity building workshop was organized by AID Foundation’s Tobacco Control Project to increase the capacity of LGI personnel and local BATA members on licensing and TAPS ban issues focusing on the Tobacco Control Guideline of the Ministry of Local Government at AID Complex, Jhenaidah.

The Special Guest of the workshop was Mr. Md. Ajmul Haque, Secretary (Deputy Secretary) of Khulna City Corporation.  Mr. Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, Mayor, Manikganj Municipality; Mr. Golam Kabir, Mayor, Savar Municipality; Mr. Syed Mahbubul Alam, Technical Advisor, The Union; Mr. Saifuddin Ahmmed, Coordinator BATA, Mr. Hamidul Islam Hillol, Project Manager, Bureau of Economic Research, DU and Ms. Farhana Zaman Liza, Program Manager, TCRC were present virtually in the workshop via Zoom. In-person presence of Secretaries and Licensing Officers of 9 Sadar Municipalities and 1 City Corporation of Khulna Division and Senior Executives of 10 BATA Organizations of 10 Districts have enriched the program.

Ms. Shagufta Sultana, Project Director, AID Foundation TCP has presented the key-note paper in light of the guidelines of the Ministry of Local Government on the use of tobacco products. The secretaries and licensing officers of the city corporations and municipalities were agreed to start tobacco tread licensing as soon as possible and organize more and more mobile courts to remove advertising and promotion of tobacco products and stop TAPs ban violation as per the survey report of AID Foundation.
